If life were lived in a spiral staircase
One could always look back to discern
What acts to correct or to go back for
What has been left in hurried concern.
It has nowhere to go but up or down by choice
There's balustrade to lean and wrung to sit on
You can never be lacking in poise and pause
You can take your time with passion or none.
If not the contender egoistic sort
The side is your grace to let others go ahead
The boon is you see all's composure
And decide when to help take the lead.
But life is more than a spiral staircase
It's a roller coaster with loops and twists
Subject to giddy dynamic challenges
That when you fall you may need therapists.
