Don't Be A Weed

© By Kalucharan Sahu

The poet's poem was chosen as a 'Best Entry' and among eight poems altogether, out of 24 entries in ILA Magazine's 'Heart Challenge', offered July 18 - July 21st, 2023. The theme asked this question: "Your heart has just scheduled a meeting with you. What's on your heart's agenda that needs to be discussed?" Poets were required to write a poem as if in deep conversation with their heart, and also required to apply at least one of the vocabulary words (from a separate and previous post), inserted into their poem.

My heart beckons me for a date, It has so many things on a platter Seeking my attention, and thought;

I know not what it has on offer.

"Do you hear the tintinnabulations of the bell,' my heart said, 'ringing, Calling for an urgent congregation? Does it signify for you, something? When your life is caught in a whirl Of time, without a winsome exit, And in deep waters, like a fish, you twirl And turn, which has become a habit." "Do you think I have any option?", I replied, At which, my heart guffawed, "O, dear, you are such an innocent child, Life is beautiful, don't be a weed In a garden; bloom like a flower, Spread your fragrance far and wide, It's never too late for any endeavor."
