THE CANDLE BURNS

Written by Dennis Brown Shadows move upon the wall
Dancing in the dark of night Exposing what the candle holds Through the flames of its lambent light The flicker of the truth it hides Lights aglow atop its wick As it tunnels within its burning whole To find its way through thin and thick The candle forms from heat expelled From warmth that has found its path As it sends its scent of life evolved Through happiness and times of wrath It burns until it longs to cease To find an ending to its ways Until the spark has come to rest To settle upon the ash of day The candle burns for all to see To what will be and to what will last
Until the air cuts its will to breathe And the wax has left its melted past. © 10/2021
