A View of Two Poems
"TRACE A PATH"
I trace a path to the road less taken.
There are countless circles
and at night I always get lost.
I am certain it is the lack of light
that betrays my eyes and memory.
It is no swift passage but it is
the breeze that makes you feel
like you are not alone or lonely.
My eyes have been betrayed
by the sky that looks like the sea.
Instead of diving in I should be flying
under a canopy of bright stars.
It takes all day to trace the path
to the road less taken. I trace
the path with my own tired eyes.

"IN THE CITY"
In the city
you never hold my hand.
You do not
want others to talk.
How boring
are people who gossip.
They doctor the truth
and go to church
clutching pamphlets.
You love me.
You must love me.
This is why
we spend so much time
together
in the city.
I know there is someone
out there
envious
of the time we spend
together.
