DEEP LILACS
Deep lilacs
mingle with salmon pinks
and hover amid mellow golds
while an infinite firmament
bids a lachrymose adieu
to the dazzling blue
of daylight hours
as it ponders awhile
the enigma that is nightfall.
And high in the easterly quarter
a bright moon, monarch of nighttime
toward a waning daytide
inclines its glorious countenance
for to greet the coming of night
as a gentle mist rises over the realm.
